Shop 4 Meds: Warning on herbal meds before ops. Patients who are admitted to hospital for planned surgery without informing doctors about what herbal medicines they are taking may be placing themselves in danger of potentially serious complications, a team of Dublin anaesthestists has warned. Their study has found that many patients presenting for day case surgery are using herbal or alternative medications without mentioning this to their doctors. Furthermore, doctors themselves often fail to ask patients if they are taking any over-the-counter medicines.
